Goalkeeping

As we approach the new season and with training camp about a month and a half away i think the Bruins need to address some inconsistencies in net. Tim Thomas is far and away the starting goalie as he has proven his worth and ability and then some over the past few seasons. But as far as a back-up goes, I don't know what the Bruins plan on doing. They do have a few options. The have Manny Fernandez still and they also could promote Tuukka Rask if they feel that he is ready to asume that role. Its hard to say what would be the best direction to go here. Fernandez is a veteran goalie and has pretty good numbers. The only drawback is his health. Everyone was really excited before last season when the Bruins aquired him but it turned into a complete washout as he was hurt pretty much all season. They could take a risk and use him as an expensive back up. Rask certainly has promise but I'm not sure if is ready. They could also try and trade Fernandez for another goalie. Maybe a young goalie. While he may not be the best fit here in Boston, he may be a good fit somewhere else. Whatever the Bruins decide i hope they do so soon. As far as I'm concered Tim Thomas is the number one goalie and he deserves it because without him the Bruins would not have made it as far as they did last year.

Fernandez makes too much to sit out. Unless he or Thomas is injured (or possibly traded), they'll do double-duty this season. Looks like Rask will have to wait another year, unless an injury/trade situation arises.
